BIO

Robert Kingham

I am a contemporary artist living in Easton PA on the banks of the beautiful Delaware river. The two main focuses of my work are woodturning and glass sculpting.

I grew up in Swarthmore PA surrounded by aunts and uncles who were, and still are, artists, musicians, and writers. And grandparents who were writers and artists in their own right. We lived near Swarthmore College where we would play as children. Not knowing that we were playing on and around amazing outdoor sculptures that dotted the campus, by great artists like Alexander Calder and Alekos Kyriakos. We were surrounded by art, it was a nice place to grow up.

After high school, I earned a BS in geology from West Virginia University. The processes of the natural world are fascinating to me and influence my art and my life greatly. In 1997, I co-founded Crystal Signatures, a glass company specializing in awards, sculpture and corporate gifts. I have been the operations manager there ever since. In 2007 I was able to take over the role of Master Cutter at CSI, doing all the hand sculpting and cutting. I work closely with designer Peter Yenawine, to create some of the most beautiful sculptures and awards. Please check us out at www.crystalsignatures.com

I was introduced to woodturning in the early 2000's and have been hooked ever since. There is something almost magical about putting a log on the lathe and cutting through the layers to the beauty inside. Its always something different, and you never really know what you'll find. I joined the Lehigh Valley Woodturners early on, and since then, I have served two terms as President and Vice President of the club. www.lehighvalleywoodturners.com.  I initiated several directives for our club, including a scholarship for continuing education, and the WWAP, the Widows of Woodturners Assistance Program, which helps woodturners spouses deal with the shops we leave behind.I also served as the club rep to the Board of Directors of MAWA, the mid-atlantic woodturning symposium held in Lancaster PA. Working for the club was a wonderful experience which allowed me to meet, collaborate, and learn from so many great turners.

As my journey continues, I find myself drawn to all the possibilities of mixing the mediums and creating unique and interesting pieces.
